im still a noob in the game, but from what I have read, this is generally considered amongst the best starter level machine. I am still holding out for the newer Gaggia Pro, but this seems like a good deal.
i hear the plus has some odd quirks. Such as due to the 3 way valve - it causes some water purging from steam wand after you end a shot? Clearing lines as u said? Any truth to that? Was back and forth on these - went with the non-plus. other differences I found. Plus has stainless steel porta filter handle head (were baskets go in) vs Aluminum on regular. plus has better metal weight tamper vs all plastic regular. plus has more holes in steam wand vs 1 in regular.
I have never had a problem with water purging from the steam wand after a shot. The steam wand does purge water after steaming milk to clear the nozzles tho. I did have slight water spill from the purge valve in the drip tray, but that only happened when you use the pressurized basket.
:
Good starter machine from a reputable company, but wait for $350 during Black Friday.
Does it usually get that low? I don't see it below $400 on camelcamelcamel or searching here on Slickdeals (but i didn't see what many posts either so maybe something is messing up here)
I got mine for $380 + 20% cashback with prime card so around $300. I don't know if camel or keepa can track cashback offers
Edit: Last year early December. I love my machine by the way, I paired with a DF54 and I make great espresso drinks, even better than most coffee shops near me

Thank you for the clarity. Lots of confusing information - maybe my comment added to it. Loving my non-plus Bambino so far.

CCC shows it hit $340 December 23 last year (for the blue one at least). There is no guarantee it will go that low again.
I think I'm going to split the difference, it's also $400 at best buy and there is Amex offer for $25 off $250. Good enough for me
Random question - but how does the $350 Kitchenaid espresso stack up against the Bambino?
Spend the extra nickel for the Breville. Breville is actually in the espresso machine business. For KitchenAid their espresso machine is only a basic line extension for their stand mixers. KitchenAid also makes a matching coffee grinder attachment from their mixer which is poorly reviewed.

A grinder is even more important when it comes to specialty coffee, you might want to have a budget for that, too.
Gaggia is well known for their after sales service and parts - and there is a large user community constantly developing tweaks to the excellent Gaggia machines. Save your money for the Gaggia and but good grinder. Best price performance for a grinder is now found in one of the many super premium hand grinders. These low-ish cost manual grinders can match the performance of many elite electric grinders. Look at the 1Zpresso line-up for example

I managed to get this deal for the blue one in December. I monitored the prices for about a week and bought it the day a green one from Breville arrived. I use it every day, sometimes twice.
