Also, another weird thing is that in my Amazon account this is listed as a Colorsoft Signature Edition, so it has the ads disabled. I'm not sure what would happen if I need to use the 2-year kids warranty though.

As someone with young kids who have myopia...staring at this little screen is a sure way to get it if they arent myopic already.
I guess your kids aren't reading paperback book either? The kindles e-ink is better to read with, similar to paper with better lighting and ability to boost font for easier read. …
