Anyone know how the carbon compares to the standard aluminum? Curious how smooth carbon is? I may have to sell my aluminum to get this one.

Same. 🤦

Price match it with customer support, or for me it's usually simpler just to buy this cheaper deal and send the new knife back as a return for the previous 150 order. 🥴

It's got a nice finish and feel. Mine had one tiny rough spot where the cnc tool seems to gave bit the carbon on one of the routed out features near where the handle meets the blade. Lighter and easier to hold than aluminum imo.

Smoother than the aluminum. Basically polished, but not to the point of being slick.

I believe this is the OG Bel Air 3.1" blade not the newly released Bel Air "XL" 3.4" blade. I ordered 1 cause it is a great price even for the OG 3.1". I don't believe the newest "XL" has carbon fiber scales yet. I think it's a typo on the listing. But regardless USA made magnacut steel for $130 it's a banger deal. I have the red aluminum scales Magnacut Bel Air and carry it more than my bugout & tagout.

I can't wait! I have a deka with aluminum scales, a bug lout with titanium scales, and this will be my first Bel Air. I'm in the minority in that I like my bugout a lot more than the deka, but I'm thinking the Bel Air will be my new favorite. Thanks OP

The blade is CPM MagnaCut steel an excellent choice for knife blades and an upgrade to SV-30. Here's the AI short story.

CPM MagnaCut steel is known for an excellent balance of edge retention and brittleness (toughness). It generally reaches hardness levels of about 60-64 HRC, with the following key points:

Edge retention: MagnaCut shows very good edge retention comparable to high-end steels like S30V and M4 at high hardness (around 64 HRC). It performs well in cutting tests and maintains sharpness well, partly due to its fine carbide microstructure and controlled hardness. Higher hardness slightly improves edge retention but may reduce toughness somewhat.

Brittleness/Toughness: MagnaCut's standout characteristic is its toughness, which is significantly higher than common stainless PM steels like S30V and M390 at similar hardness levels. It is roughly as tough as CPM-4V and Vanadis 4 Extra, non-stainless tool steels known for toughness. This toughness means MagnaCut resists chipping and breaking better than many steels at comparable hardness.

Corrosion resistance: MagnaCut also excels in corrosion resistance, better than steels such as S110V, S45VN, and M390, even at high hardness. This makes it very resistant to rust in harsh environments.

Grindability: Despite its high hardness and carbide content, MagnaCut reportedly grinds easier than some similar steels (e.g., S35VN) due to its fine microstructure.
