If you wanted to cook for 2 you it's not enough unless if you add more charcoal on top and it holds it ok.

I use my larger Weber Chimney starter for high heat grilling (using a grill on top of the chimney) of small quantities of food. But, the larger version actually needs more charcoal than I need to grill the few pieces of food because you need to have enough charcoal to fill a rather large cross-section that has to be at least 2-4 inches high for the charcoal to light evenly.

Since this version has a smaller diameter, less charcoal is needed.

same price at Lowe's. if you're not really a brand name person, you can get the normal size of Kingsford for $15 from Lowe's, Walmart and home Depot. Walmart also has the expert grill version for $11.

This is the COMPACT chimney, so best suited to the Smokey Joe or Jumbo Joe grills.

It's 8" tall compared to a standard chimney at 12.7" .

While small, it is sufficient for starting smoking jobs that ask for a third of the (regular size) chimney starter filled with coal. But I paid less for a full-sized starter, so it may be less of a deal than you think it is.

Parting thoughts: try not to run over it with the ride-on lawnmower. You may be able to salvage it, but it will still be deformed and prone to falling sideways. That's it. [insert here the obligatory coal miners' salute]

It fits inside of Webers newest portable grill, the go-anywhere charcoal grill (which has a split grate), along with another accessory or two or other items.

Really good for that.

Weber chimneys are cooler vs some lesser brands because of the internal cone at the bottom. While it reduces the amount of charcoal it holds, it effectively lights up more briquettes due to the larger surface area of the cone vs a flat bottom. This means a faster light when you're rushing to get those things going for dinner.

It holds enough charcoal for a fire basket. 1 basket in the 18 is enough to cook a tri-tip indirect. You could also put 1/2 the lit charcoal in each basket, topping them off with unlit charcoal. That will give you a split fire in a 22 for hours.

This is also a good amount of charcoal for the Go Anywhere grill, and if you cut the cooking grate you can fit this and all your cooking stuff inside the CGA, which is a really sweet bit of kit for portable grilling while camping, at the beach, tailgating, etc.

Not to mention they last like 4x longer than a cheap chimney. It's cheaper to own the Weber chimneys in the long run.

have been using this compact size for years to get long smokes going on a 22 WSM. That being said, this price just seems okay
