No, unfortunately. Amazon is going to be moving to an OS developed in-house based on Linux they are calling Nova OS. They've finally grown tired of the rooting and the sideloading. They are moving to something completely propriety and locked down that they can fully control.

it's actually fairly easy to side install the Google play store on these.

Is it on Fire OS? or on the Android OS?

I heard that Amazon is ditching its own fire OS and soon will be moving to Android OS.

Did it ever have its own OS?I haven't had a fire in the better part of a decade, but even back then it was just a skin on android OS, and I was able to install google play store and apps from it with a little workaround. Don't think it was ever its own OS unless that changed at some point. Would be hilarious if they tried, failed, and are coming back again!

its android, but it is "locked" to the amazon app market. there are workarounds, but not always easy. that said, this is about good enough for watching tv/movies and little else.

Can YouTube app run on this without a workaround?

I bought this on oct 2023 for $130 after trade in discount, tax, waste fee etc. replaced a iPad 7th gen which stopped charging . I liked the screen and sound and installing play store was pretty easy. Eventually I gave it to family member and I got a Samsung A9+ 128gb for similar price

Amazon is holding a hardware event tomorrow. Wonder if they'll be announcing any new Fire tablets.

I was thinking about this, and it seems like a decent price, but I'm not sure I want to play the cat and mouse game every time Amazon does an update (yeah, I know about Fire Toolbox to shut off updates, etc.). Instead, it makes sense to pay more--maybe 2x more--and have better access and flexibility (and maybe LineageOS) from the get-go instead of the cat and mouse game.
