I went in store Sep 26 and bought a physical gift card. Amex credit posted to my account this morning!

Great post OP. In my experience, the transaction won't post until the item ordered ships. So if part of the order ships tomorrow, and another part ships Oct 1, then the transactions will be dated Sep 30 and Oct 1. Not sure how that would interact with the credit for this quarter, but could be better to gamble on an e gift card, or in store purchase!

I read a reddit thread where a person went to the store and the manager said an internal memo was sent out saying Amex was shutting that down going forward and the credit wouldn't apply for GCs. But that's one anecdote from another forum. Doesn't mean it's true. Hopefully it works for you!

I'm wondering how this would happen practically. the way that they code things on the point of sale is how they determine whether or not something is eligible. recent reports have said that gift cards code as normal retail transactions, so I'm wondering if they're considering coding them separately and differently? I wonder how true this is.

I actually read the fine print on this and they use the merchant processing date for the transaction. "American Express relies on the merchant's processing of transactions to determine the transaction date. If there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to us or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date, then your purchase may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to American Express as occurring on January 1st, the statement credit for the next benefit period would be applied, if available."

My Lululemon purchase was made 9/22 and shipped 9/24. Transaction is showing posted on my Amex 9/22 (I think it may have been a hold until it shipped). Was a bit over $75 for some knapsack my daughter wanted.

Good DP, thank you! I've definitely had large orders ship in multiple packages and post on different days, but maybe that's all changed

Correct, this is part of the new benefits for consumer accounts. I'll update the post to clarify

Unless you have a store nearby, I think you should order right away. If you miss this quarter, you still get credit for it being in the next quarter.

While people are at it, don't forget the RESY $100 credit. I did a takeout from the Resy restaurant yesterday. While the credit hasn't posted as yet, I don't expect a problem.
