Since you can't use points and deals in the same transaction, I rarely remember to use my points in time. Lost 2700 recently due to expiration.

Does anyone else find the expiration on the points to be super frustrating? By the time I actually accrue enough points to get anything worthwhile, I'm getting a notice that my points are expiring.

Yes! You get ripped off if you don't use a deal, so then you never have a chance to redeem points. I just get a free item by itself occasionally (like a vanilla cone) to use my points.
The best item on their upgraded rewards for breakfast is the Sausage Biscuit. For lunch, I am still working on it.
Use the price of item divided by if the rewards points were converted back to $s is how I did this calculation.
Edit: I looked back in my history and McDonald's quietly expires them. I lost, SEE IT HERE, 9668 points (luckily, the justification is that I was reimbursed for most of what I bought through my work).
For what it is worth,
now with earning 500 for pre registering for this Monopoly game, I have gotten my deficit down to 9168. Woo hoo.

Some chains are at least better in that they tell you. I have seen some notification emails that passively tell you, "Hey you have 'x' points! Use them for getting...." Never did I think to check back into my rewards history.
Also, any time you buy an item, the item expires within 6 months up to the 1st of the next month. For instance, if I had bought an item last February (26th to be exact); it is going to expire on 10.01.2025 (which is like tomorrow). The bad thing is, they do not tell you how many of those points are going to expire on the first of the month unless you look at your point history.
Also, let's state if someone had 5k points. Does the app know to use the going to expire points first or does it use the most recent points? I could use 4.5k of those points and 500 may actually expire. Do not forget that if you do not want to have any of your points to expire, you need the point totals to be exact. You can only redeem them in 1500s. So it is on the customer to check back, see the lots of points and expirations, make the calculation of the amount to be used before they expire. Crazy.
Man, if people are buying food to just try and hit the next 1500, McDonald's is making A LOT off psychological money on this.
Even Domino's is more fair because at least every order is 10 points and you have to order at least twice to get 20, which can be fully utilized on an item.
