It is my understanding that these things should be advertised as a dehumidifier only. They are not going to bring the temperature of the room down and will actually add some heat. Buying this thinking it's going to cool you down in the middle of summer could actually be dangerous, IMHO.
What? These literally cool down a (small) room and pump the heat generated outside.

The Amazon pics are a bit confusing since they don't show the vent hose. The customer pics show it vented with the hose going to the window. That lets the heat out in AC mode.

This one has only one duct... avoid and go for dual always.

Single duct uses air from the same room to cool itself and pushes that air out of the room.

Dual duct pulls fresh air on one side to keep thr components cool and pushes the hot air out of the other hose keeping your room cooler and saving money on electricity.

I have a Mitsubishi mini split in one area of my basement. I was told by my HVAC guy that it will only dehumidify when the AC is running. Is this the case with the Black and Decker? I need additional dehumidifiers in 2 rooms of my basement and a model that works independently from the AC would be a bonus.

You beat me to it! Single duct uses room air, so an equivalent volume of outside air will leak back inside somewhere in the home or apartment.

this is...$99. the cheapest dual hose one is going to be thrice the price. I've had this exact A/C in peak Texas heat and it worked great for my 20x18 room.
