Interesting that they lumped the MGA1 into the lot with the other two, totally different price range (the other two range from 99 to 149, so the price on those is appropriate).

Big con of the MGA1 is that it is Oculink, and not USB4. Sigh. No go for Rog Ally X or Claw 8 users.

If you have, or plan to get a mini PC with an oculink port, the MGA1 looks like a killer deal. Have one in my cart, but don't have a current use for it. Would have to modify one of my mini PCs to get myself an oculink port, which I guess is possible.

And just like that it is gone. Ahh, slickdeals.

I didn't need it, or know exactly what to do with it. But that was a pretty insane deal for what the device offers. Probably one of those buy now ask questions later situations.

It works great with a M.2 NVMe adapter. They're only $10 or so on Aliexpress.

Was looking at the MGA1 this morning and too late. I've got a refurbed DEG1 that works great.

Dang it! No brainer at this price and a perfect match for a refurb. UM760 Slim (16GB + 1TB) I got from them last month for $208. Would just need to add a cheap OcuLink adapter and put it in the open M.2 slot.

IMO docks like the DEG that lets you put in any GPU you want is better. 7600M is decent but if I'm going for the hassle of an eGPU I'd just go all out.

Depends what you are trying to do. Going all out as you say with DEG1 also requires supplying your own power...supply. As well as GPU.

IF you happen to have those things lying around, or want to spend the significant cash to get there, sure.

But the MGA1 is all in a nice enclosure and going to look reasonable on someone's desk versus a Frankenstein eGPU/PSU setup.

I'll be honest it is a product I didn't know existed or I needed. At it's going rate of $400 new, no thanks. At that point yeah might as well get a DEG1/PSU/GPU for that money.

But for the $134 it was here and people looking to supplement their mini PCs with an all in one solution. Killer deal. I will be keeping my eye out for this to come back in the future.

No one should go all out on a graphics card for a eGPU setup since the bandwidth of the connection is limited to 4 lanes because most mini-PCs use M.2 PCIe Gen 4x4 for their OcuLink connection. So, the more one spends on a graphics card the worse the performance loss because of limited bandwidth.

That's an oversimplification. Oculink itself has much less overhead and significantly better bandwidth than TB4 and below. You can get improvements up to significantly beyond a 7600M. There are established benchmarks that show the 64Gbps of the PCIe Gen 4 x4 lanes is enough to power some pretty decent cards.

The 7600M is a pretty crappy GPU, with 28 CU. These mini-PCs often have something like a 760M or 890M with 12 or 16 CU already.
