Fungal acnes and dandruffs are often caused by Malassezia, a type of fungus that lives on the scalps. It feeds on natural oils produced by the body while esters and lipids found in personal care products may also contribute to their growth. Therefore, some people try to avoid these ingredients when possible.

The Naturals version has esters that can feed Malassezia, while the version in the original post doesn't.
Neutrogena T/Sal has the same active ingredient salicylic acid 3% as the Naturals and it doesn't feed Malassezia.

They aren't the main cause, but they may contribute to or worsen it. It's not that surprising actually, lots of personal care products marketed to people with sensitive skins or even eczemas have fragrances, SLS, and other common triggers. 🤷🏼 ♀️

Ive been using bunch of anti-dandruff shampoo and none of them worked. Nizoral worked but not good enough and very expensive. Selsun blue "medicated" worked really well for me. I used it 3 times a week until no dandruff left then once a week. If I stopped using it for 2 to 3 weeks my dandruff will start to come back. I use head spikey massager to get into my sculpt and leave it for couple minutes. It smells kinda bad if you use it a lot so make sure use conditioner after.
