Is Perplexity better at any specific tasks compared to ChatGPT?

Fair point. I should have been more precise in my critique of their business model. You're right that their search and indexing tech is proprietary. My "middleman" comment was referring only to the final generation model (GPT-4, Claude, etc.), which is sourced from other providers (plus their own internal Sonar model). My preference is to use the synthesis models directly, but I concede that calling the entire service a "middleman" wasn't entirely accurate.
Why does this defense argument sound like AI written 😂

I like perplexity for information. Unlike other generative AI, perplexity list the sources it used for the answer. In theory, there should be less hallucinations, but always be weary of AI answers.

I haven't used it for creative stuff as much so I can't comment on that. I assume it would do as well as other chat bots.

am I the only one who likes copilot? I'm pretty sure it's just like a front end for chat GPT but it's free and in some ways I like it better
I like Copilot a lot as well. It is a front end for ChatGPT but I find that its personality or presentation style is more direct and concise than using ChatGPT directly.

I use both but for different things. Copilot for questions while I'm browsing (since it has direct access to what I'm viewing in Edge) and for troubleshooting computer issues. I use ChatGPT more for philosophical research, writing assistance, and image generation. I like the convenience of Copilot, but ChatGPT's interface makes it better for long-term organization of chat histories which is important for research/writing activities.

I like Co-Pilot, but i avoid using it because for some reason when i activate it, it stops my google voice search from working, have to change about 5 different settings to get it to work again

The perplexity account can't have had a subscription, ever. I tried this with my perplexity account that had the xfinity promo and was denied. And the paypal email was ineligible for reuse for another perplexity account.

In the end i got a $1/mo promo email for PP so I'm using that for now.
You need to use a different email address. I had the xfinity deal from last August and before that expired I used the same promo code in my Xfinity account to sign up for another year with different email. Also got the samsung under another one.

I use Perplexity daily. Am on the PayPal deal and absolutely love it. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what it is. I recommend that you try it for yourself. It has pretty much replaced Google searches for me.

I use the free preplexity almost everyday. I don't use it enough to hit any blocks, so it's hard to move from the free version.

I have Perplexity via Samsung device offer. I find that it makes up 'facts' often. It's really good at gathering sources, not so much at summarizing data. I tend to use Gemini deep research model more often.

Probably not the best forum to post this on but has anyone used any of these "AI" tools for financial planning (tax minimization, medical insurance costs, Roth conversions, etc.)? If so, which of these tools is most appropriate and do they work better or worse than bespoke planning software?
