As someone that uses everything - Zigbee, Z-Wave and Lutron - and have them aggregated on Home Assistant - I can tell you the Lutron are just better switches. They are made better and their wireless is far more bullet proof.

Literally no one sells these for 25-30 for these dimmers. Some good ones might be 35.

What makes these so expensive? I've been using the Tapo WIFI switches and here is their version for $15 that is dimmable. In a 4 pack the non-dimmable is like $8 each.

Works with home assistant, and no hub needed. I looked into zwave and zigbee but they were more expensive.

Adding on to that, Lutron customer support is unbelievable. You can easily and quickly get a human on the phone. They can help you through wiring, configuration, product, technical, and any questions. They will quickly replace anything that might remotely be defective.

I have the same question. I've been using a tapo dimming switch. it's not perfect, but it doesn't have any network issues, and works fine with ghome/Alexa,HA

it does have a weird delay in the switch itself (physical, no delay over Wi-F), and it's not pleasant to use compared to a non smart switch. I guess that could be better in these, but not $40 better per switch. that makes no sense. I'd love for someone who owns both to tell the differences (aside from one being 2.4g hub less and one being proprietary hub based)

much better deal to get these on eBay in bulk. they are about $25-30 each

I literally paid $49.95 for this dimmer, hub and a Pico remote. Brand new in box.

I paid $25 a piece for the "old" style dimmer. Bought 4 of them.

Check the Sold listings bud.

Buy once cry once. Lutron is the best by far. Everything just works every time all the time.

On ebay you can regularly get these for about $40-$45 a piece, but rarely for less than that. I have bought about 15 of them over the last 9 months or so

I have around 20 of the older style of these switches and they have been absolutely bulletproof. One of the few tech items I don't need to fiddle with after installation, they just work - always. My only complaint about my model is the dimming level isn't saved but this updated one corrects that.

Also, there is an optional wall mounted remote switch that goes with these allowing you to create 3 way switches without an electrician running wire. The battery lasts quite a long time.

Not about this product but they also make a motion sensing switch that's really great. My kids were always leaving the lights on in their closets and in the pantry and now the lights just turn off automatically.

Most people don't want 50+ switches clogging up their WiFi and NAT table. Also, you mentioned about a delay with the WiFi switches - Lutron switches work and function just like dumb switches when used physically. Smart home tech should improve upon legacy hardware not make things worse. That would be non-starter in my house. $40/switch is literally pennies for something that is used multiple times a day, has rock solid reliability just like a dumb switch and integrates well across most home automation ecosystems.

FWIW, I installed a Lutron hub and two Caseta Wireless dimmable switches w/ Pico remotes in 2018 to control my downstairs recessed lighting.
The system has been absolutely trouble-free.

I have multiple other wireless switches and bulbs (Feit & Wemo) that have had various issues at times over the years. These Lutron devices in my home have been trouble free, bullet proof, and easy to use with a simple yet effective app that is far better than the other devices I use. This system is the ONLY piece of electronics that I own that has not once had an issue nor caused me to be frustrated with it. I can't recommend Lutron devices enough.

My friend, an electrician, who installed the switches highly recommended Lutron for its hardware. We set the devices up together and he was blown away at how easy it was. While he was weary of me installing "smart lighting" in my house, lutron really impressed him and he began recommending the devices to his customers.

Much cheaper option would be to get zooz zwave dimmers. I just put them in our new build after using an older model for 5 years. Very happy with them and Home Assistant.

what does lutron use? wifi? any good zigbee switches?
Lutron is 437 MHz (or 0.437 GHz). Zigbee is 2.4 GHz, so obviously shares the same bandwidth as regular wifi and can interfere with each other.

Same here. Lutron is extremely well engineered. They don't quit working no matter what. No delays, no annoyances.

Even if the hub is powered down, or the network goes out, the basic functionality is super robust. Home assistant automations work flawlessly and extremely dependably well with Lutron.

Switches feel solid, look great.

Replaced dozens of switches with Lutron.
