So don't check a bag. Pack light and make everyone take a carryon. I've been traveling like that with my family for decades.

Wow this is considered a deal now?

Add a checked bag at $100 each both ways thats an extra $200. Becomes nearly an $800 flight.

It's not terrible, just not slick. Pretty typical mid-winter prices IMO.

Packing light for cold and wet is easier said than done.

But remember your extra $200 gets you an chosen seat and free changes, too. Much more than just a bag.

And in light of the cost of living in SF, I guess it's pretty cheap

I only travel with a backpack and carryon. I don't get why there is so much to pack unless you're bringing home hello kitty merch from Japan

I travel the same way. Washing machines are a thing in other countries - use them people. A little hack that I sometimes do when I want to bring back more souvenirs than fits in my bags is to carry them in bags that they give you at the airport gift shops. They've never once questioned me about them when I just carry them on the airplane.

Sure, if you want to wear the same things every day, or spend your vacation doing laundry...

With two pairs of pants and five shirts, I can create ten different outfits. Adding five pairs of socks and boxers leaves me with ample space in my carry-on for toiletries, another pair of shoes, electronics, and other essentials. Additionally, I can usually bring a personal item, such as my backpack, which is convenient for my wife because she tends to pack additional items.

I did a month in Europe with a 40L backpack. We stayed in AirBnBs with a washing machine. All good.https://a.co/d/42bI5fx

Some classy travelers here I see. Stop justifying airlines overcharging for checked bag. The reason it takes forever to get on and off a plane is because of carry on and rush of people trying to grab overhead space. So stupid, traveling for vacation should be calm and not stressful. Laundry in vacation... LOL. Do you all also vacuum your own rooms to ask for discount on housekeeping?

Traveling for 3-4 days is fine but a week of vacation in another country with checked bag? Then again who flies 10+ hours for 3 days?

you d be surprised how many people do flights like that for only a few days. I wouldn't go further than this distance, but I've made the hop across the Atlantic for only 2.5 days plenty of times. Don't have infinite vacation days after all. Sat next to plenty of people doing the same.

Sf to Paris seems really long for 2-3 days combined with time difference and all.
