I am typing this on the last gen model of this (i3-n305, same otherwise), running Linux Mint. The only thing I wish mine had was a backlit keyboard. Otherwise, I get 8-10 hours of battery life, it runs circles around my old Dell laptop, and even plays Minecraft and Roblox for my daughter without a hiccup. For the price I paid I'm pretty happy.

512GB x4 NVME drive so storage is plenty fast. And chargable USB-C ports on BOTH SIDES so charging is simple and not cumbersome unlike my work laptop which has both on the same side (and only one supports charging).

This is supported by Coreboot for loading alternate operating systems. Mint runs flawlessly, although I did have to apply the audio fix (which was fixed by running a bash script).

References:
https://docs.mrchromebox.tech/doc...vices.html (search for craasneto which is the device boardname)
https://docs.chrultrabook.com/doc...ssues.html (audio fix)

EDIT - this newer model (with the n355) is NOT YET SUPPORTED on Coreboot. It's probably just a matter of time. My apologies for not remembering/recognizing this out of the gate. That said, the 2 devices are almost identical save for the main processor. The newer model benches around 10% faster than the old so not a dramatic speed boost.

I'm thinking of switching over to a full Linux distro for a similar previous gen Acer 516 GE as well! Main concern was battery life. Does Linux mint feel any worse than the battery life you get out of chrome os? That's my only thing from switching.. chromeos is nice for browsing but feels still too limiting when I try to program on it beyond small code bases or things that need direct access to USB.

I got the earlier version of this last year around the holidays and it's fantastic. while a bit larger than past Chromebooks, it was outperforms any I've had in the past. Definitely seems worth it at this price point.

Had this for about a year and love it. Only wish it had a backlit keyboard.

This version has a backlit keyboard, he's probably referring to last year's version with the N-305 process/no backlit keyboard.
-Just got back from testing in-store, confirmed backlit keyboard, bought two but won't open for a bit most likely.

Actually really good value for the price, this is a hell lot better than comparable $250 Windows laptops

I got this back on August, and it performs well, and has a nice high res touch screen.

the only noticeable flaw is the speakers are pretty bad. The tablet style Lenovo duet 9 Chromebook has significantly better sounding speakers.

not a big deal, but definitely use headphones if you want any semblance of good audio.
