512GB x4 NVME drive so storage is plenty fast. And chargable USB-C ports on BOTH SIDES so charging is simple and not cumbersome unlike my work laptop which has both on the same side (and only one supports charging).
This is supported by Coreboot for loading alternate operating systems. Mint runs flawlessly, although I did have to apply the audio fix (which was fixed by running a bash script).

EDIT - this newer model (with the n355) is NOT YET SUPPORTED on Coreboot. It's probably just a matter of time. My apologies for not remembering/recognizing this out of the gate. That said, the 2 devices are almost identical save for the main processor. The newer model benches around 10% faster than the old so not a dramatic speed boost.

Had this for about a year and love it. Only wish it had a backlit keyboard.

-Just got back from testing in-store, confirmed backlit keyboard, bought two but won't open for a bit most likely.

the only noticeable flaw is the speakers are pretty bad. The tablet style Lenovo duet 9 Chromebook has significantly better sounding speakers.
not a big deal, but definitely use headphones if you want any semblance of good audio.
I just use it for web browsing and youtube.
Acer said the hard drive can be replaced. For a chromebook, what's good if the hard drive is 1T ssd?
The only issue is the replacement battery is hard to find. There is a listing in ebay for $100.
Usually, a replacement generic battery for a Dell or HP costs less $40.
The small CPU upgrade on this model isn't worth $75, but this still seems like a solid deal. Backlit keyboard is not a feature I worry about much, but I can see it's use for a meaningful segment of the target audience.
This does have the HDMI port, which last year's model did not. I did not realize that and wound up buying my son a 'docking station' which I was able to find on Amazon for $30. That got us 2 FHD monitors (and I think it supports 4k), can manage the laptop screen at the same time, and has the power pass through. That wasn't planned but actually works quite well since my son can just plug/unplug the USB-C to get the monitors, keyboard, mouse, and charging in one shot. That said, I do like having an HDMI to just plug in a monitor.
The new model does not have the micro SD slot, which may or may not be meaningful for a given customer.
The question is what will the price be on BF/CM? 90 day return, so we're in that window if the price is much lower (though paying for shipping twice would be a loss.) This runs until Oct 26, so just short of being in the 30 day price match window for BF. Strange, that...
