Probably the worst grass seed you can put down on your lawn. IMO.

Made the mistake of filling in bare spots few years ago. It was so bad, had to rototill the whole lawn a couple of years later and restart from a quality blend (like Kentucky Blue Grass and Fescue).

There is a lot of "hate" for Kentucky 31.. and for good reasons. Read online.

Best thing to do is, go to your reputable local nursery. They carry grass seed that originated specifically from your surrounding lands. They will be superior to any commercial brands like Scotts or Pennington.

Used this for over seeding the last couple years and filling in some bare spots. Looks & grows great. Don't understand all the hate but it works for me

Great product. I tried to purchase more than one but it said, "Quantity limit met by this seller."

Ya, no info is worse than just not saying anything.

A little searching got the following, which is making me pass on it.

Tests against other seeds, with this grass ending at the bottom on pretty much every test. http://ntep.org/data/tf12/tf12_18...2_18-3.pdf

And some other comments from the lawncare subreddit. FWIW, some people seem to be just fine with it, because, you know, we're all different.

Color. You can never get that dark green color you see with a healthy established lawn.

Mature texture. The texture of the grass when mature is course, hard, and can be somewhat painful to walk on barefoot.

Mature Density. The density as the plant matures thins out, creating a constant problem of weeds. The grass likes to grow tall and so it will naturally space itself out. We don't grow lawns for hay, so it never gets tall enough to justify the spacing.

Control. outside of just killing it off, theres no real way to get rid of it. it will compete just fine against elite varieties, so unlike some rye grasses, if you seed it with plans to have something else establish next to it, you are going to have a hard time.
