I use this for package drop off on the front porch and it works great
do you use combination lock? what would stop someone from picking up entire box?
for me it's mostly so that the packages don't get wet in rain or snow. Also someone has to actually walk up to the house to check if there is something in the box vs seeing from the street that you have packages.
While I don't have a box similar to this, I suspect package theft is more-so 'opportunity theft'. Thieves (scum) drive around to look for brown/blue Amazon packages and see if they can quickly run up, grab it, and run away. A dark container like this may not be immediately obvious as to what it is.

Package thieves look for a porch that has a visible package sitting on it so they know its 100% worth their time to get out of their car and walk up and grab it. A delivery box hides any potential packages they can steal, and that uncertainty is what prevents your packages from being stolen because thieves aren't going to get out of their car and run up to every house with a box like this just to check inside since most will be empty. They are only going to risk running up to a house if they can actually see packages sitting on the porch that they can steal where there is a 100% chance their action will result in a sucessful package theft. That is why these porch delivery boxes prevent porch pirates from stealing your packages.
