Honest question, if its used, is there a process to clean previous users ear wax before being resold? I'm always weary of buying used items like this.

I'd be more concern with the fakes on Amazon. If you're worried about hygiene, you can spend another few bucks, I think $8, to get brand new ear tips from Apple but you can only select one size.

I bought some for Amazon day that were used and it came back with a pair of brand new fakes that I returned and it took a full month to get my money back. I wouldn't buy any Apple accessories from Amazon at this point.

Are the apple fakes getting better? They used to look like comically obvious knock offs.. and presumably it would be easy to tell during the apple pairing process since it shows as a generic bluetooth device vs actual airpods which have their own interface

I got sent fakes that were so good, they even prompted that menu to come up to pair them. It wasn't until the left earbud stopped working a few days later that the Apple Store employee told me they were fakes.

just wipe things down with alcohol and replace the silicon tips.
i bought some refurb from woot, buds were spotless, ear tips were new; but i use my own foam tips

Mine were nearly 2 years old when I checked the warranty. Not worth it IMO vs new at $150-$160.
