I have a philosphy - if a product can maim you, kill you, burn down your house if it malfunctions, I will buy from a reputable company with years of track record even if it costs more. So I dont buy power tools, chargers, Li batteries, cars, etc from no name companies. Its not worth it to me. That said, I have a Ryobi hand chainsaw and find it exceedingly useful around the yard. I also have a chainsaw on a pole from Ryobi for out of reach stuff. I havent found a reciprocating saw on a pole either. Just something to consider.
Agreed. I use chain saws regularly and this is not something to cheap out on.
In other news, never do your own wood chipping.
These take oil..... oops mine worked fine cutting down an entire tree without oil!
Oiling them helps them to operate more efficiently and prevent overheating, but it's not usually a huge deal unless you're really pushing them to the limit with constant heavy work. I actually had an old full-size electric chainsaw that had a bunch of little issues that cropped up after years of use (loose chain, half-stripped tightener, etc). The oiler stopped working and I was ready to buy a new saw anyway, so I figured I'd just use it 'til it died without any oil as kind of an excuse to get a new one. I used the thing for another three years and even cut down entire trees without ever giving it a drop of oil and it still kept going. And it still worked just fine the whole time. Obviously, I'm not recommending that, but it shouldn't be a big deal as long as you get back to oiling it occasionally at least.
My 20 inch chainsaw takes oil so i looked for a spot on this one and couldn't find one so figured it was maybe low enough speed to not really need it. The chain had a coating on it when I took it out of the case so that was probably enough to get by.
Yeah, this one doesn't have an oiling mechanism, which is why some prefer the Tietoc model, where the oil is always a push away. It doesn't really need constant oiling, but it's definitely a good idea to drip some around the chain in a few spots before and after each use (and maybe even in the middle of long cutting sessions. It includes a little oil bottle that you can fill and use for easy application.

Have lots of pruning to do, my reciprocating SKIL POS went up in smoke and the only other thing I have is the big Oregon 1500 which I REALLY hate using (so freaking big)..
