Is manual oiling (this one) better than automatic oiling (Tietoc) if the latter leaks when not in use?

I got this model for less than $20 before tax only a week ago. My wife likes to cut down branches and a small chain saw like this make it easy for her. I have to do the maintenance although she does oil the chain a bit. I have several of these so it the chain comes off or the battery wears down, she can just grab another and continue.

As for lithium ion batteries, companies store and ship millions of them without a big problem of warehouses burning down or trucks transporting them catching on fire. As long as the lithium battery isn't fully charged and is new, it is unlikely to catch on fire. As the battery ages it may have problems, especially if it is fully charged or overcharges. A battery that is mostly discharged is less likely to catch on fire even if it is bulging.

I got this a few weeks ago for about $20.00

It's quickly become one of my favorite things!

As far as the oiling goes, it's no big deal. Just fill the little plastic bottle with some cooking oil. Before you start cutting, just squirt a little on the chain in a few spots. I would also give it a bit of oil after you're done using it. If you're ever in doubt, just put a little more oil on the chain while you're using the saw. I keep the oil bottle in a zip lock bag when I'm not using the saw, just to keep everything clean.

Keep in mind, this isn't a big 20 inch, 3.5 horsepower saw, it's just a little baby saw that needs a bit of oil every so often.

It was great with our holly stump. Not great with the cedar stump because cedar splintered too much. Holly was just 1 hard piece of solid wood. This Seesii saved my wrist, so easy to use. I bought the Seesii pole saw from AliExpress / found in another Slickdeals post.

Exactly, squirting a bit oil every so often isn't a big deal. Bit inconvenient, but no leaking oil puddles.

The big deal is that if you're in the Makita LXT eco-system you can use your existing batteries to power this, and the included batteries to power 3rd party Makita tools.

you're right. it's the tietoc one with an oiler.
Seems like you have to spend $35 to get any one with the real automatic oiler and not the one where you have to squeeze the bubble. At this point, too expensive for some junky saw and seemed like too much hassle and potential issues... I just don't have energy for this crap and ordered the Milwaukee sawzall for $60 for pruning duties (have their other tools and blades already).

Well I ordered the Saker for $18 about 2 hours ago. Canceled it and bought this one for a few bucks more. Supposedly this deal has TWO 2.0Ah batteries plus the case.
It does have two batteries, received mine about a week ago from the $19.78 deal. It appears to be a good value, haven't used it other than to make sure the batteries would charge.

Minor gripe is that there is no charge level indicator LED on the battery. Only the power wall wart has a single LED. Green = full charge, or red = charging. For $20 to be expected I guess.

It also comes with an oil bottle, wrench and a small brush to clean the chain and sprocket drive. There might also be a screw driver to adjust the tension, too lazy to go confirm if it's in the kit.

yeah, I have a hackzall so I'm not sure these would be any better. I have a gas and larger Milwaukee chainsaw as well, but for medium or smaller stuff I use the cheap harbor freight electric one that works pretty good.

I don't own this, I have owned for 4 years the M12 version of this tool which is a little different but generally the same in principal and these baby chainsaws are great tools for light brush and sapling work. I swapped the 6" bar and chain it came with for a 10" set and it has been great. It won't replace a large saw and wont be able to get up to the high speeds you need for some jobs but it's a small and light tool and quick and easy for small jobs. Definitely prefer these to reciprocating saws.

I have a philosphy - if a product can maim you, kill you, burn down your house if it malfunctions, I will buy from a reputable company with years of track record even if it costs more. So I dont buy power tools, chargers, Li batteries, cars, etc from no name companies. Its not worth it to me. That said, I have a Ryobi hand chainsaw and find it exceedingly useful around the yard. I also have a chainsaw on a pole from Ryobi for out of reach stuff. I havent found a reciprocating saw on a pole either. Just something to consider.
Agreed. I use chain saws regularly and this is not something to cheap out on.

In other news, never do your own wood chipping.

I looked and Saker's description doesn't mention it, they have a picture of a bottle dripping on the saw so it likely doesn't have it either.I went ahead and cancelled the order. It's a dealbreaker to me, I don't want to deal with that oiling crap.

These take oil..... oops mine worked fine cutting down an entire tree without oil!

Oiling them helps them to operate more efficiently and prevent overheating / premature wear, but it's not usually a huge deal unless you're really pushing them to the limit with constant heavy work. I actually had an old full-size electric chainsaw that had a bunch of little issues that cropped up after years of use (loose chain, half-stripped tightener, etc). The oiler stopped working and I was ready to buy a new saw anyway, so I figured I'd just use it 'til it died without any oil as kind of an excuse to get a new one. I used the thing for another three years and even cut down entire trees without ever giving it a drop of oil and it still kept going. And it still worked just fine the whole time. Obviously, I'm not recommending that, but it shouldn't be a big deal as long as you get back to oiling it occasionally at least.
