Might seem expensive but I noticed my airpods get way hotter on a Qi2 charger. The apple charger is either much more effecient or has some proprietary communication between airpods and the charger. Honestly worth it if you don't want to cook your airpods

I still don't get why this is better than just charging the phone with the normal plug-in w/the USB C cord?

Bc scratchgate? or just slap it on is easier than plug in? Plug in, no heat. MagSafe, has heat and slower.

Not sure what's the benefit of using the newer version besides faster charging which also means your battery capacity will wear out quicker

Convenience. No need to fumble with cables and I have a nice Grovemade iPhone dock that is heavy enough that I can just pull the phone off the stand with one hand

Main benefit is that if you have a household with both Apple and Android users then this opens up 25 watt wireless charging for both as long as those phones support Qi 2.2

That's last year's Qi2 version. The new version is Qi2.2, which has been updated to support 25W on non-iPhones.

I think this is probably true. I don't have an official apple charger but my cheapo amazon one gets my airpods insanely hot
