Great find. Bought the 4TB. One thing to note is that the discount will not show up in your cart at all. If you click the link about the prime discount it will say there is an error with the message below. But if you select checkout then it will be applied.

Something went wrong and this promotion isn't currently shoppable.

Yikes! After reading that article, I'm not buying any Extreme Pro SSD. Looks like it's not just the 4tb, the 2 and 3tb as well.

If you value your data at all especially for long term storage, do NOT get this line of drives. There is a reason it's always on fire sales everywhere including Amazon warehouse/resale. As TH reported, updated firmware does not do anything as the issue is in hardware / manufacturing defects. WD knows about it and deceptively started using epoxy on certain components but did not tell anyone and just marketed it as a firmware fix.

I have had several and one did fail on me. Just would not mount no matter what I tried. Fortunately I found the receipt and took it back to Costco (3 years after purchase) and they refunded it.

It was a fundamental hardware issue, so, unless the internals of the ones they are selling now were entirely redesigned, and they simply kept the exterior identical (and I don't think they would want anyone to associate an otherwise new model with the cursed drives that drove their reputation into the ground), they should still be as nightmarishly unreliable and prone to total failure as ever - which does beg the question as to why they are still selling them, but...🤔

Either way, I am not touching ANY SanDisk external SSD again anytime soon, regardless of how good the deal may seem. I actually own one of these that I inherited, and I refuse to even use that one, despite its $0 cost.

I had one of these and it failed after a year of very light use backing up music files. Avoid.
