If we are talking about under 1,500 sq ft and you don't let it get over grown very often then yea 48v is a good deal considering what you get.
1,500 sq ft or bigger I would get the 40v. I have had that one for over 5 years now and it's been solid but I also have an extra battery for it which is a must for when I let the grass get overgrown here and there
The other consideration is that the 40v line (trimmer, blower, batteries etc) and goes on sale more often
