The knockoffs with acceptable NSF/ANSI certifications are frequently $12 each for LT1000p equivalent. Shy of this being OEM and hence lower risk of poor quality, I'm missing how exactly this is a good deal.

i was thinking the same. i bought a 3 pack for $14 not too long ago. is there huge or proven risk with the knock offs?

I thought I had heard LG was starting to put NFC or similar readers by the filter housing so that knock-offs were becoming harder to use.

This is an excellent deal and a great time to stock up!
Regarding the knockoffs - Just because it tastes fine doesn't mean it's taking out everything it is saying.To me, it's not worth skimping on something we're consuming so much of.

Or you could test the water and determine for yourself if the fears are simply a myth...been using a knock off for 6 years now, testing water quality each time at the lab that's easy access for me at work place. No issues whatsoever.
