I have been debating between this and The North Face Borealis Backpack one. Inclining to the Borealis one. Any recommendations?

More pockets on the Borealis, otherwise very similar bags. For $30, the jester is my choice. If you can get the Borealis for $30-50, I'd pick that. Really depends on your personal needs though tbh.

My kids' been carrying the Borealis for over 2 years now. He's extremely hard on it; drags it daily on the turf for football practice. It's held up very well. One feature he thought would be useful but now sees as an annoyance are the bungee cords. Overtime they have become stretched out and he's never even used them. On the other hand, my other son has been carrying the Recon for over 3 years. Same backpack without the bungee cords. He's in college and finds it to be a bit on the bigger side. Although he only carries a pen, notebook and laptop. My husband also attends college and has the Vault. It's a balance between the two others; smaller, lighter, no bungee cords, and cheaper. Both my kids want the Vault now after carrying the other ones. Just my two cents; sorry, no experience with the Jester.

A lot of the cheaper NF bags have those useless bungee cords in the front. I end up just cutting them off

Have been using Recon and really like it as I'm not a fan of bungee cord style.

These are simple with limit pockets. For traveling I prefer the jansport big student backpack.
