I have been debating between this and The North Face Borealis Backpack one. Inclining to the Borealis one. Any recommendations?
More pockets on the Borealis, otherwise very similar bags. For $30, the jester is my choice. If you can get the Borealis for $30-50, I'd pick that. Really depends on your personal needs though tbh.

My kids' been carrying the Borealis for over 2 years now. He's extremely hard on it; drags it daily on the turf for football practice. It's held up very well. One feature he thought would be useful but now sees as an annoyance are the bungee cords. Overtime they have become stretched out and he's never even used them. On the other hand, my other son has been carrying the Recon for over 3 years. Same backpack without the bungee cords. He's in college and finds it to be a bit on the bigger side. Although he only carries a pen, notebook and laptop. My husband also attends college and has the Vault. It's a balance between the two others; smaller, lighter, no bungee cords, and cheaper. Both my kids want the Vault now after carrying the other ones. Just my two cents; sorry, no experience with the Jester.

Have been using Recon and really like it as I'm not a fan of bungee cord style.
Watch out Herschel took a nose dive in quality. Pick a bag on any site that sells their stuff, sort reviews by new, everyone from 2024 till the present is complaining about two things - huge drop off with hardware like zippers and huge downgrade in materials. Numerous reviews said it looks and feels like a different company made it from bags they bought in the past. This company was a decent bag company but their true fall off was their deep discounting at places like Nordstrom Rack.

that's a bummer, but a very common outcome as companies try to grow their margins after growing their customer vase
