This Metro Razr 2024 deal is mainly about a cheap foldable with a one year Metro lock and eSIM activation. The strongest upside is the price, with multiple orders going through around $65 or even $35 for a second line, and the phone can be used on Wi Fi or as a secondary device while waiting. Community testing also points to a possible unlock path on some Android 14 units, especially older November 2024 builds. The main catches are frequent stock and checkout failures, plus many reports that newer Android 15 or March 2025 units stay locked or hit server errors. A good fit if you are comfortable with the wait and the activation hassle.
Common Questions (6)
Some units accepted a T-Mobile SIM and worked immediately or for a few days, but many others showed a network-locked message or stopped working. The safest expectation is that it remains Metro-locked until the unlock process or the 1-year timer completes.
Sometimes, but only on certain software builds, mainly Android 14 units with older security patches. Many Android 15 or March 2025-update phones hit server errors or never show the permanent-unlock option, while older A14 builds were reported to unlock successfully.
Mint SIMs were reported not to work out of the box, and several T-Mobile SIMs also failed. A few specific SIMs from T-Mobile or other carriers did work for some users, but that behavior was inconsistent and not something to count on.
No port-in is required for this deal as posted, and several shoppers were able to order with a new number. The listing terms were later changed in the thread, so the requirement may vary by current checkout flow.
It is reported to auto-unlock about 365 days after activation. Do not erase the eSIM before the unlock completes; after it unlocks, you can confirm in settings and then remove the eSIM if you want.
No ongoing commitment beyond the first month was reported. The service is prepaid, so if you do not pay the next month the Metro line ends, and autopay is off by default unless you enable it.

what phone?
when purchased?
also, historically, there have been phones from metro that have not unlocked.
even when the 180 days was in affect
i dont think in this situation, u can establish a cause & effect link.
there could have been many other reasons that phone didn't unlock.
also we have a situation where the phone did in fact UL
never a requirement.
in ay event...with many phones activated by esim only....
its too early with out any meaningful data to unequivocally conclude that removing a esim will result in a phone that WILL NOT unlock
Planning on doing this order of operations if anyone wants to try something different:
Open phone
Set up Metro service via Esim
Maintain Esim / Metro Service
Insert T-mobile sim
Try to have 2x concurrent service, see if T-mobile plays nice.
If not wife has a Mint Mobile sim, will give that a shot also, report back.
I'll drop a new comment when I have results!

UPDATE: The second Razr just shipped out today with tracking.
I ordered two Razr phones on Monday. One was shipped out yesterday with tracking. The other one is still at Order Received.
2 different account or 2 lines on the same account?
