What are you talking about? All of these devices are fundamentally the same, just repackaged. All these do is extend CarPlay wirelessly, they have no innate ability to connect to the internet or phone home or anything like that.

Wow, that's super cheap for an Apple CarPlay adapter. I'm in for one. Thanks OP!

FYI: you must give this company the same complete access to your data and phone that Apple has. If you care at all about privacy, avoid all of these third party devices.

Why does this require an app to install in order to even function?

There's no app to install. Connection is through Bluetooth. The only bad side is that you have to allow it to sync with everything that's on your phone.

Question, so if this sync's with everything on your phone.....but there is no corresponding app on your phone....whats the risk? If you were to send this thing back to the company or sell it? or it got stolen?

In the video it says turn on bluetooth and wifi. I dont know if thats just to have enough bandwidth to communicate all the information from the phone to this device? or can this device, use your phone's connection to the internet through wifi?

Care to elaborate? I found your statement surprising

There is a different between "sync" and "pass through". All data need to pass this device, just like it pass through the physical cable. "sync" implied that this device keep a copy for itself. I don't think any wireless carplay adapter will actually "sync" your data because it serve no legit purpose. If this device actually "sync" your device, then this product is produce with ill intent.

I bought one this year and it works better than expected. It's not perfectly flawless and by that I mean at least 95-98% flawless.
It might've been a weather issue but there were a few times during the summer where I started the car and the screen will stay black even after driving out a few meters. It did eventually "boot up" correctly a few seconds later without having to replug anything in and I didn't have to reboot my phone or turn blue tooth/wifi on and off.
Apart from those weird events, it has been working fine. The device is lightweight enough and the cord is short it stays firmly in place and this is with hard driving taking quick corners.

I could be wrong, but wireless Android Auto and Car Play has to be done via WiFi, not bluetooth. I have wireless on my car and my S22U must have WiFi on in order to use wireless Android Auto.

Wired, obviously, does not require WiFi but it still requires Bluetooth to be on and connected to the car.

I bought this a few months ago on sale mainly as a backup to take when I travel as Hertz still offers cars without wireless car ply. For fun I switched out my $100 model from four years ago with this one, and its dramatically faster and doesnt seem to hog my wifi as much. Recommended

I have an iPhone and it only uses Bluetooth to connect. I turned off the WiFi on the phone and it works just fine. I think android phones might use the wifi function.

Anyone know the easiest way I can watch Netflix or YouTube through Apple CarPlay? I have YouTube TV and already watch it on my iphone via the app , my goal is to watch it on the screen in my car through Apple CarPlay!
