Nice price on an X870 board. I'd consider it if I didn't just buy a used MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi from Amazon for $142 a couple days ago. Just have to hope it's fully functional. lol

Wow, this is the best price for a X870 I've yet seen. Only negative is that returns with woot can be a pain.

This or the Gigabyte B650E Aorus Elite X AX Ice that was on sale from Newegg with the fan for $110 last month?

Leaning toward holding out for an X870E deal, this is a great price though.

For anyone planning to make use of the bottom PCIE slot, the placement for the supplemental power cable is in an incredibly stupid place. Make sure whatever you plan on using in that slot either doesn't need it or has enough clearance for the power cable.

Seems to be a thing on several models of MSI boards, not just this one. I don't recall seeing it on any Gigabyte or Asus boards.

I'm not understanding the difference between the X870 and X870E. Google search says X870E has PCIe 5.0 and three m.2 slots where the X870 doesn't. However pulling up the X870 Woot link clearly says it has both.

There's a good chart and better explanation here: https://www.guru3d.com/story/comp...00-series/

Had been eyeing this board as a decent 'budget' replacement for my X570.
In for 2.
Friend's B650's on the fritz and I'm, piecemealing an AM5 upgrade (apparently)

Best I can tell, MSI is the only AMD Board Partner focusing on expandability in their gamer-prosumer lineup.

The 6+2/8-pin PCIe input on the board, is to supplement and stabilize slot-provided +12V.
-In the expectation that the end-user might attach multiple GPUs (via riser, potentially) to the board [and, have them run sustained loads like LLMs, etc.]

I would strongly advise to avoid the Gigabyte board.
The non-Ice version of the same, *is* the board my friend is having (and have had) a terrible time with (and will be replacing with this X870-P deal).

What kind of problems have they been having? Saw some comments about updating the BIOS to fix issues. Not sure if I'm still in return window or not.

Dont get a Gigabyte motherboard. I had B650E aorus elite ice and a B650 eagle. They both had issues where when you shutdown your pc or your pc goes sleep, the pc wont power on unless you reset CMOS. They both have issues with BIOS and RAM compatibility

I read that in some of the reviews too, urgh I'm gonna see if I'm still in return window and send it back I guess and get this one. I'd rather have MSI anyway tbh.
