Weird for it to have 0 reviews. Also, I had a 10% off if paying with amex points offer and just realized I let my rewards go to 0. sigh. I wonder if it would have even worked along with the other coupon, though.

No kidding, came out 2020, no reviews, no reddit posts, nothing about it. If there are reviews (albiet against) for the stripped down versions, this one must really be bare bones entry level to be completely non existent anywhere.

This router (RT-BE55) is very similar to the RT-BE58U. RT-BE55 has 1/2 the RAM and flash memory (512MB RAM, 126MB flash) of the RT-BE58U (which has 1GB RAM, 256MB flash). The RT-BE55 also has less configurability with WAN/LAN and lacks a USB port. I asked Google Gemini to compare them and it advised:

In summary:
The ASUS RT-BE58U is the more feature-rich and better-equipped router, mainly due to its higher RAM (1GB), inclusion of a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, and more flexible multi-gig and WAN port options. If you plan to use advanced features like VPN, USB applications, or simply want a more future-proof and capable router for high-traffic environments, the RT-BE58U is the superior choice.
The ASUS RT-BE55 is a slightly more basic model, likely designed to be a more budget-friendly entry point to Wi-Fi 7 or as a simple AiMesh node, sacrificing the USB port and some system memory.

The RT-BE58U is well reviewed as a router for "modest broadband": https://dongknows.com/asus-rt-be58u-review/ Another review proclaims , "Wi-Fi 7 without the premium cost": https://www.digitalcitizen.life/a...8u-review/

Those are reviews for the RT-BE58U of course. Since the RT-BE55 shares a similar CPU and has similar specs (other than RAM and flash - and no USB port), I think it would perform similarly. Those with larger network demand (more devices connecting) should probably avoid the RT-BE55 as the lower RAM/flash memory may cause the router to have difficulty keeping up with client load.

I don't get why a router even needs much or any RAM to begin with.

Anyway I am trying to figure out a router to get for $100 or less, preferably asus and preferably with 2.5 ports, but may have to get something with 1gig ones...
