Western Digital is offering enterprise-grade Gold 14TB drives for $239.99 [westerndigital.com] with the promo code WDGOLD, and shipping is free.

This seems like a solid deal for a brand-new, durable drive that should last for years in a NAS RAID setup. In my opinion, it's a much better option than purchasing a "refurbished" drive that's likely been heavily used in a corporate environment.

I've compared the Golds to the Red Pros, and both have the same 2.5M hours MTBF, making them appear quite similar in reliability. However, I'm not entirely sure of all the differences, so any clarification would be appreciated.

From what I can tell, the Golds and Red Pros seem to be almost identical and represent the best Western Digital has to offer. The Gold 14TB also has a slightly higher read speed of 262MB/s compared to the Red Pro's 255MB/s, according to the comparison chart [westerndigital.com].

I'd say no, as the drive comes with a 5-year warranty and impressive specs that should easily last you 10+ years, given the 2.5M hours MTBF.

If you're spending a significant amount of money, you want something durable and reliable. Cry now and enjoy the quality and reliability; besides, it's not much more expensive than a "refurbished" enterprise drive, which usually costs around $160.

Used drives were more appealing when they were much cheaper, but now, with a brand-new Gold drive available for just a bit more, buying used doesn't make financial sense IMO.

There's also a 20% CB offer if you search for it (can't share specifics). It's a quirky deal; add the drive to your cart, leave the WD site for a while, and you'll get an email with the 20% CB. Good luck

yes , although not designed for it. this is read write. surveillance hdd is designed for mostly write and has minor lagging with reading. you want your surveillance to not be skimming on recording lol. we're talking minor diffs but that is the distinguishing feature.also - coupon unavailable if previously used apparently. wd blocks checkout

Good deal considering prices compared to a few years ago. It may only go slightly lower during Black Friday.

I don't think you can overkill on a NAS, just over pay
