For me, it hasn't been an issue because the monitor sits in the back top piece, while the keyboard and mouse etc sit on the front top piece, so the seam doesn't really matter, and we got used to it right away.
There's so much value to these, some people just buy them for their legs and height raising mechanism, and then just replace the top piece with a single piece of wood, it's easy to DIY and will get rid of the seam frustration if it bothers you.
Either way, this brand has been excellent - we purchased several and they've all showed up in perfect condition, easy to assemble, and we're still using them to this day.
