Looks nice, but underpowered if you want it to help pull air in from other windows by blowing out. Blowing in it feels pretty good and strong, but there's no adjustment to direct airflow. We returned ours, but paid nearly 3x.

This fan is truly terrible also bought this in the past and ended up returning. No adjustment and doesn't blow strong enough I have seen $15 fans that are better, I've had little desk fans that are better.

to be clear the reversible air flow doesn't seal when not in use.

also if you need additional foam & call Vornado for it, Vornado doesn't provide it for free. you have to pay.

I believe they charged about ~9 dollars

Looks nice, but underpowered if you want it to help pull air in from other windows by blowing out. Blowing in it feels pretty good and strong, but there's no adjustment to direct airflow. We returned ours, but paid nearly 3x.

This fan is truly terrible also bought this in the past and ended up returning. No adjustment and doesn't blow strong enough I have seen $15 fans that are better, I've had little desk fans that are better.

That's a bummer this seems great in concept. I've had in window fans that are always too loud or bulky or die fast..... for being a good brand too bad it's not strong.

I also bought and returned this. As others have mentioned, it's very underpowered. If the fan was 5x more powerful, that would work well but it's not.

A lot of the complaints on the power of this fan might be explained by understanding Bernoulli's Principle. The ideal placement of the fan is a few feet away from the window, and not directly in it.

Best fan I've ever bought is an XPower FC-250D. It can move up to 1560CFM at the highest setting, but the best is when it's dialed down to the lower speeds, where it's super-quiet relative to the CFM.
When we get home in the evening and the air inside is unbearably hot, we use this to force the hot air out an open window, with cool air being sucked in from other open windows on the coolest side of the home. It takes about 15-20 minutes at the highest speed to force out all the hot air, dropping the temperature noticeably.
I put it in the server room at work to keep it cool on the weekends, when the building turns off the AC. It is aimed at a passive exhaust vent in the ceiling.
I've also used B-Air air movers (the little 1/5 horsepower model is much, much smaller than the XPower, but it doesn't move as much CFM and is always loud). Right now we are using the B-Air 1/4 horsepower air mover at home. It's not as big as the XPower but is definitely louder. Any of these three is far more effective than any Vornado we have ever owned.

There are certainly bad Vornado models out there, but though its not particularly cheap (~$100), the Model 80x (box fan) supposedly hits 3,050 CFM. Sounds like a jet engine at max speed, but the speed setting is adjustable from 0 to 100 in increments of 1, so you can decide on your optimal balance of noise to airflow. Its very quiet below 40/100.

This is really interesting but not the issue with this unit being bad specifically. I've tried this, a big lots brand, a random one from Amazon, black and Decker, and the evo evolution from target (sadly out of stock anyone interested only $30.) This vornado was the worst and most expensive. The evo blew me away (haha) comes with remote to change speed and direction of flow too.

I've lived in probably 12 different houses and apartments and have only seen top down windows in an old San Francisco apartment that was built in the 1920s. Why are all of these fans and air conditioners made for these types of windows?

I put my floor fan right up against my window and that shit rips. $50 on amazon.
