Isn't it available for shipping only, which requires a minimum shipping amount of $50?

Yes, and it's still cheaper per ounce from Amazon, even with just the 5% subscribe and save discount. It's a steal with the 15%!

This is a good deal if you don't have a Costco membership. Otherwise they are cheaper.
I ordered this once and refill the container with chia seeds from Costco.

Sure, just be sure to drink some water with it. Eating them pre-soaked and without water, they'll absorb water on the way down to your stomach, get stuck and cause a blockage.

I grind these up and put them in my protein shakes for fiber. Grinding them up also lets you get the dense nutrition these seeds have to offer, your body has trouble digesting the seed whole.

Chia seeds, unground, are just insoluble fiber, really. When you grind them up, they become very insoluble as well. But the calories shoot up since you're actually able to digest them, but then you also get a metric crapton of micronutrients too. Worth it for me.

So if you want it for fiber, you may as well get flax seed or psyllium husk (metamucil is a flavored and palatable version of this). They're both soluble fiber, but very low in calories.

Soaking does the same thing, but you have to plan ahead.
