If you book, don't forget to call Icelandair about letting you do a stopover in Iceland. They're one of the few carriers that still do this for no extra cost (up to 3 days in either direction), but very often there is extra cost if the dates don't line up perfectly with the airfares.

Edit: just be aware that while the fare might be half or 1/3 of summer, the days are so short, it could be a false economy when you find out most things in Scandinavia are closed for the off season.
