3080 12gb is 10 percent slower, uses significantly more power, no warranty, less overclocking headroom, less rt and pt perf, and much less perf when ray reconstruction is used. Also no native fp8 or fp4 support like on Blackwell so newer features like reflex 2 which uses frame warping might not be able to run on ampere

If you can get it at a good price sure it might be a decent option but used prices are way to close to the new price of the 5070 imo

Meh 3080 12GB can be gotten for cheaper and its just as good depending on the game, some performance increases are as low as 8% to as high as 18% in most games. If you dont use all the fake frame stuff that can cause image corruption you are not gaining much at all.

Videos 5 months old now but it covers it all in depth.

$300-$380 of actual sold cards and completed transactions, not asking prices compared to $500 is not that close.... On marketplace type places or offer ups you can get them for even way cheaper. The 5070 is what the 4070 should have been, overall its a meh of an upgrade which is why im still holding onto my 3080.

hard to find the 12gb 3080 used, but yeah the 10gb goes for $300-$320 all day.

12GB is the MINIMUM required for 1440p for many AAA games being released today, and that's assuming your have ray tracing turned OFF. I personally got an RX 9070 because it has 16GB of VRAM, but I've played games, such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, that uses just around 12GB of VRAM with no ray tracing.
You'll probably be fine for the next two generations with just 12GB at 1440p, but just keep in mind that it's just Nvidia's version of planned obsolescence.

https://www.techpowerup.com/revie.../5.htmlYou are conflating allocation with usage.Actual usage is less than allocation on top of Nvidia cards just using 1-2gb less vram due to better compression + less rebar usage

On top of this upscaling lowers vram usage further

Not really, the 12GB is easy to find, 10 second ebay look and literally the 6th listing $380 and its make an offer so you can get it for cheaper.
