3080 12gb is 10 percent slower, uses significantly more power, no warranty, less overclocking headroom, less rt and pt perf, and much less perf when ray reconstruction is used. Also no native fp8 or fp4 support like on Blackwell so newer features like reflex 2 which uses frame warping might not be able to run on ampere
If you can get it at a good price sure it might be a decent option but used prices are way to close to the new price of the 5070 imo

$300-$380 of actual sold cards and completed transactions, not asking prices compared to $500 is not that close.... On marketplace type places or offer ups you can get them for even way cheaper. The 5070 is what the 4070 should have been, overall its a meh of an upgrade which is why im still holding onto my 3080.
You'll probably be fine for the next two generations with just 12GB at 1440p, but just keep in mind that it's just Nvidia's version of planned obsolescence.
