They spent huge sums of money to meet emissions standards and the remval of moly was a side effect.

Certain engines need moly for longevity. Adding 5-6 oz of this into your oil puts a nice coat on components.

But most people don't need this.

Right...Mobil, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc. have spent huge sums of money and time developing "anti-friction" treatments. I'll stick with one of those and not dilute their formulations with this stuff.

The owner's manuals for my Nissan, KIA, Hyundai specifically say "do not add oil additives"

Generally, snake oil -just need good quality motor oil --- Motor Oil Geek on YouTube debunked this multiple times.

If you're looking and on a budget Kirkland synthetic is a great value or wal mart super tech

This is tempting. I got a 4.6 ford motor making a noise (not a daily driver.) I suspect is the timing chain guides. I will eventually need to address it but not anytime soon. I recently changed the oil Mobil 1 5w20 ,a mechanic suggested thinner oil may quiet it down temporarily . It didn't work , I wonder if a shot of this will help.?

Is there any reliable information that this does anything useful for your engine? Genuinely asking because Sea Foam is about the only additive I can find that has research to back up that it's not just a bunch of snake oil.

Kirkland has been great for me - running 0w-20 in my Tundra and my Honda Fit.

Check about five posts above yours. Apparently you didn't look at the other posts before posting your question.
