This is like any company releasing a new product. The cost and performance has to be significantly better than the existing products from top 3 to put a foot and enter the arena.
In a sense it makes sense, SD doesn't want just another member. They want much more impactful members. As any community gets larger, barrier to rise to the ranks gets stricter and higher.
