I bought this the last time at this price.
The processor is the fastest you'll get at this price in a new laptop. There is a free ram slot to add ram and the SSD is upgradeable. The ssd it came with is actually pcie 4. It's not far enough to take advantage of the extra bandwidth though. Build quality seems fine.
The main downside is the screen. Viewing angles are poor.

Insanely good value. Also open box fair available in my area for $166! Yes, crappy display but I've seen worse before in this price range.

It has an open SO-DIMM slot, so you could actually upgrade to 16GB (8GB x 2) for about $20. The bigger issue is the integrated graphics needs to be 4 to 5 times faster before it would approach the minimum GPU spec (RTX 2060). The graphics in this thing are weaker than a Steam Deck, though I've yet to see a $200 laptop that is better …

Thanks for the info. Does it charge over USB-C? Is it easy to open the laptop to access the ram and SSD?

according to the q/a section:

> The ASUS X1404VA does not support USB-C Power Delivery for charging.

Also picked this up last time it popped up. Added a 16Gb ram stick to the empty slot to get it to 24Gb total. I dont think the 8Gb was swappable. USB-C is not a charge port, I picked up a 'usb-c to 4.5mm x 3.0mm barrel jack plug' adapter. The plug sticks out a little at those dimensions. There is probably a shorter barrel length but I had already tested two that didnt fit and just settled on that. Hope it helps

Can you let me know which adapter you purchased please so I don't have to test multiple unsuccessfully first?
