For some tools I actually prefer these. I own both ecosystems. The m12 batteries force a minimum size for the grip that sometimes results in worse ergonomics. There are some tools where the M18 version of a tool has a thinner more sculpted handle than the M12 one and is more comfortable to use. For a rachet the M12 battery form factor is undeniably better. But for a lightweight drill or impact I like being able to stand it up on the battery without having to bump up to a bigger heavier one that has a flat bottom.
