Panels are so cheap now (Good brand for $165/410W) that it is much easier to just add two more panels instead of 4 for 50% more production. Tracker only gives you 35% increased production at the cost of complex and failure prone mounting. Only if you are north of the polar circle can a tracking systme give a bigger improvement, but even then, you have a system that may not be tolerant to storms, so just dont do this

I did this and want to do more of this. The biggest plus for me was everything is off the ground. Easier to clean and trim around the setup. Far more esthetically pleasing. The tracking for me is just an added perk.

I'm about to put solar and might as well just cover the whole roof since panels are so cheap.

You don't want to use this on the roof, especially on windy area. My neighbor learned it the hard way.

Even on the ground level, this setting costs more than fixed mounted one. It needs yearly maintenance for moving parts (every 15 mins), and the maintenance fees (replacement parts) on the long run cost more than saving up to 40% sunlight.

But space could be a factor. I don't have infinite space in my backyard so saving some space while maintaining the same output sounds like a good deal?

Space is pretty much the only reason I would suggest these to anyone; if you have limited room for panels then you have to squeeze as much efficiency out of the panels as you can.

I've got one of these with the 195W Eco-Flow panels. It has never put out the rated power. I put some Enphase micro-inverters on the panels and there's some significant variation in what each panel puts out. I even found some defects in the panels. Eco-Flow didn't respond to two email inquiries, so I cannot recommend their stuff. The EcoFlow panels are 12V panels (around 22VOC, but intended to be used with a charge controller to charge 12V batteries). This voltage is on the ragged edge for micro-inverters to do MPPT.

For this tracker, you need a battery. An old motorcycle battery worked for me, but you need another small panel with charge controller to keep it charged. Something like a 20W panel is fine, though if you get snow in the winter, you'll need to keep it cleared.

I have not found standard panels that fit the dimensions of this array. The Eco-Flow panels are an odd size, so see if you can find better panels before you buy this tracker. Also, there is a windspeed limitation. The included anemometer tells the controller when to go horizontal due to wind speed, but there's also a max wind speed where the instructions say you have to remove the panels. That's pretty impractical. In practice, mine went rhough some decent winds last winter with no problems. It rocks a lot, but no structural issues. There are lots of trees around, so wind speeds are moderated in my yard.

I bolted it with 8" or 10" lag bolts to a solid (not rotted) spruce tree stump to test it out. Not expecting that to last more than another year or two. You're supposed to sink some concrete footings to secure these things permanently.
