I recall reading a deep analysis and testing of USB-C to A adapters, and one conclusion was:
It's better to have some separation between each port
Ex: with 3" of cable in between each the 2 ports vs like in above design
Don't recall why though

Probably because these things may block other ports.

I'd guess the risk of breaking the port with something rigid hanging out.

Nonetheless, I'm in for a set. I have two for my laptop now, and I find myself swapping them around a lot. I can keep one in my laptop bag, one at my desk, and another as a backup.

on the Apple Mac Mini M4 (the most recent version of Mac Mini), using these things and other short adapters on the rear ports causes interference with the wifi. no issue on the front ports. IMO, that's more a design flaw in the Mac Mini M4 than the adapters. i use adapters on other computers just fine, without any issue.

I have a Mac Mini and use these exact brand (generic) adapters and have had zero issues with the WiFi. The issue that I read of was on certain brands of docks (Ugreen?) that sits under the Mac Mini and causes WiFi issues.

anything that's metal that sits under the Mac can interfere with the wifi. in addition, adjacent metal objects (adjacent metal monitor stands, or adjacent USB hubs plugged into the USB-C ports in the back) can interfere with the wifi. it's well documented, but everyone's situation is different based on their setup.

for example - i have zero issues with the UGreen dock. however, i experience significant slowdowns using these kinds of adapters and similar 90-deg ones. however, if i use extension 90-deg ones it's fine. i have a lot of metal near the mac mini which i can't do anything about. just the right combination to create issues with the signal.

the mac mini design is flawed

Nah, It was something about the electrical connections of each port being too close to each other. Maybe this was problem in the early days of A to C designs.

Oh weird, that was a thing during the earliest days of usb 3, funny that's back.

Not enough shielding/grounding or whatever.

it's only an issue with the Mac Mini due to the way it's designed, and it's only with the rear ports (or in some cases, using metal docks that the Mac Mini sits on).

the Mac Mini's enclosure is thick metal, so the only place Apple engineers could effectively put the wifi antenna, was on the bottom plastic cover of the unit. this makes it extremely vulnerable to signal degradation. some have had success fixing the issue by putting the thing on its side.

I wonder if ferrite beads would help. can't fit on this but can on shorter adapters or just plain cables.

Title is wrong.. this product is Not a usb- to usb-a to usb-c. It's a usb-a to usb-c. Standard naming convention for these adapters always identifies the male part first so the title would imply that it is a USB – C male to a USb – a male but the product is actually just the opposite.
