In-store only, 50% off Weller 70w soldering station.

Better than the 888D Hakko, because you can just use the up/down arrows to change the temperature (the Hakko is needlessly complicated to do something as simple as raising the temp).

You can set a timer for auto-sleep mode, then when you touch the wand, it goes back up to the preset temp.

These are in the welding section of the tool department.

Check the link, then look if your store has a "See in-store clearance price" below the normal price.

My stores don't have it on sale yet but I'm watching! Been living off the same soldering irons for years.

I wish....I hate mine.
I mean, would it have cost them a penny to add a 'down' button to the base?

I just double checked and realize I was wrong before—there's no "down" button, so I guess it wasn't too counterintuitive to me at the time to hold the menu button for 1 second (I'm also soldering less these days). It's a great enough station I never thought pressing the enter button for a second was a big enough deal to buy a different one, but my old instructor swore by Weller.

Regardless of pricing, check out the reviews on these before just blindly purchasing because they are being clearanced. Sometimes just a moderately better design makes the work MUCH easier.
Weller may not be the same (type of) company it was when "Instructors swore by it". Weller likely has multiple product lines to meet multiple price points, Big Box Stores aren't typically known to carry manufacture's best stuff, more often times than not, it's more likely the exact opposite.
Caveat emptor.

i was going to pick this up, and frankly after reading the reviews, its just not worth the headache. Even if it was free, I'd question its value.

Yeah, I think people have memories of the blue wellers. These lower tier red ones are not the same. I'm sure they're still great irons, but they may not be the quality people have in their heads.

You said it well! People always ask me "well what brand or model do you recommend?". And I always tell them that what I recommend is NOT sold at stores. Stores like to stock stuff that they can move fast and offer at a reasonable price but the stores could care less about quality or longevity of the product as it is in their best interest for the product to not last long so that you will come back in a year or two to purchase a replacement !

Just bought this Soldering Station and the fan plus the mat....I read through the reviews and didn't think they were so bad as to not take a chance on this slick deal...we all know that a person is more likely to write a neg review vs a positive one
