GX2 used to be ~$20 price range. Inflation is really doing us a great favor...

This price doesn't seem very special. I only recently started enjoying ultra light setups, and this one seems a little short. The ones I bought from Walmart are $36.48, and are 5'6".

Have two ugly sticks like this. One reel broke and their warranty is unusable because they don't answer the phone and don't answer emails. Crap Company

Nevermind, the main description defaults to the 6'-6" but when you pick the model, it updates the price.

You may be right, but I believe you're referencing the old model. they updated these rods in the last year or so and these are the new ones on sale. might be a decent price in that regard.

I have two ugly sticks, one latest gen and one "elite" a few gens old. I love these sticks! They take so much abuse and I really treat them as almost disposable but they've never given out on me. I order one because I'm really into ultra light fishing now and this size looks like something I wouldn't even need to detach when loading in the car. So… effectively I'd always have a rod in the trunk ready to go! Thanks OP

$50 price range used to be Ugly Stick Elite line, which is now increased to $80 range -- not MSRP, the "typically discounted" range, I mean. Many other fishing brands have raised their prices. For example, Daiwa had ~15% raise across all their models this past summer, followed with Shimano more recently. But, Ugly Stick's relative % of raise probably is among the highest. My point is, inflation is having varying impacts to different spending groups, and, those who have relatively lower income, spending mostly for relatively lower-priced daily necessities and entertainment products (like this), are in-proportionally affected.

Upgrade is a stretch. The original ugly sticks are of much better construction and quality. But yes, they came out with a new lineup and increased the price.

The 4'6" has a specific use case - Crappie/Pan fishing on Kayak or in case of bank fishing where there are low hanging branches.
These are made in China, so I am not surprised of the cost increase over time, especially with inflation and tariffs. I do have a bunch of elites that I had bought on Amazon 3-4 years ago when they briefly dropped sub $20. Walmart is selling these for $64 (not sure why it got included in the Wiki posting)

For anyone that can't catch this deal or wants a longer rod check out the Shakespeare Micro Series Spinning Rods. They are very reasonably priced at about $20 and and not high end or anything but one of my favorite rods at any price. I use the 6" and 7" to fish saltwater and fresh and absolutely love the action on them. The page also shows a Durango ultralight that looks like they are getting good reviews

They also have combo with rod and reel at the same size of the one inches deal for $26.

i was going to go for something this size, but i ended up with a collapsible rod from Costco. I just added my own reel and it works decently for what it is.

I keep this on a backpack or in the back on the car for when I'm in a random spot and just wanna "see if i can catch something random in 10 minutes".

Yeah, I love those spots you find by accident. I started keeping a rod very similar to this one in a hatch in my SUV along with a small box of assorted lures. It usually goes something like this: "Oh, it would be nice to fish here (while checking the DNR app). Well, I do have a few minutes, may as well see what happens!"

thats unbelievable because ive had my gx2 for 10+ years (my first rod) never maintained it or washed it.. Fished in the salty san diego oceans. hauled in some massive giants and abused the crap out of it tossing it around in hopes itll break but im still not sold on replacing it. badass little $40 combo reel.

It's tariffs, not inflation. We, the consumer, are paying the fees that companies are paying to bring products into this country. Current inflation is at 3% annual. That's nowhere near these price increases. Please don't confuse inflation and tariffs
