I hated these now. The positive nub sometimes isn't big enough for some devices. It doesn't reach in come cases to connect. Also some I only had for a year or so and they are not up to capacity after fully charged. I'd stay away from them now.

Have about three packs of these and these are absolute garbage. It definitely doesn't hold what they advertise. Even after a full charge, and checked with a battery tester, it barely shows as charged. Go with eneloop and save your money for anything that's require power for a longtime like a deadbolt.

Aren't these made in China or Malaysia now, and don't they lack the same quality as the Japanese ones?
Yes and yes. Just spend extra on Eneloops so you don't have to deal with them going bad after a a few charges.

Good catch. I missed that. I actually prefer the 2000 for the longer life.

Yeah we have probably 200 of these for kids toys and such. When they fail to charge i hit them with 2V from a buck converter for a few seconds and they charge again. Definitely not great, but can't really beat them for the price for toys and throw away stuff.

I have these (the 2400 mAh capacity), and they're...okay. Not an expert but I own several rechargeable brands, and this is the order I'd put the ones I own in:

Eneloop/Panasonic
PowerOwl (available on Amazon and probably best value)
IKEA
Amazon Basics

The Amazon brand is the last battery any of us choose to use in the house. Throw them in low draw devices like clocks, and they're fine. Don't use them in Xbox controllers unless you like changing batteries a lot.

Good info. What voltage does the regular charge them at? Is 2V higher or lower than the regular charger?

It's higher. Their full charge voltage is 1.2 - the cheap buck converter i have only gets down to 1.8 and I was rounding up slightly. I've read of others hitting them with higher without an issue. Once the material is "excited" a bit the regular charger will take them for normal process.

I'm surprised by everyone's bad experience with these. I used this for my Xbox controllers and a handful of other things and it's been solid. No complaints. It replaced some other brands including Duracell rechargeable and it's been solid. I probably get 2-3 months on Xbox controller. Before I barely got a couple weeks with energizer and Duracell non rechargeable batteries. I guess the biggest complaint is 1.2v can be a problem in certain applications when some things need 1.5v but that hasn't been a problem for me.

Very bad batteries. Charged to 100% and installed in Kwikset lock, fell to 80% in 15 min and to 60% in a day. Dollar store non chargeable ones are way better than these

As good as my black Eneloop Pro's over the past 5+ years. I have a ton of NiMH now that most devices went to built-in Li batteries. What do yall use them for nowadays?

I think I just have a couple smart thermometers now that need AA/AAA.

These are no good. Better to spend the money on eneloops as others have mentioned.

Get yourself one of the old 'dumb' NiXX chargers that charge batteries slowly for a LONG time. They don't care if the battery is dead, they still try to charge them.
Put them in those for 2"-15" and then you can put them in a good charger. That generally works fine. Occasionally you may need to hit them with a higher voltage quick 'shock'.
Be aware that means the battery is getting pretty hammered and may be on it's last legs.

They don't have to be 'good', just work without being 'smart'. You aren't going to charge it for 15-16 hours.
If you don't have a decent smart charger, get one. THAT is a whole different subject. MOST of the 'packages' (batteries+charger have pretty lousy chargers, except some of the Eneloop packages.
