you can still get 3rd party hardware (pates, extruders, hotends, ect.), but the SW... after have other brands for years and futzing with all sorts of opensores solutions, nah, i want SW designed for the tool that does exactly what it should every time.
as for print jobs through the cloud... i'm much more concerned about my camera feeds, they can have my print jobs

The X1C Combo is a mature, reliable flagship 3D printer that stands out for plug and play use, strong print quality, and a touchscreen that feels like a real upgrade. The AMS combo and Bambu ecosystem make it especially appealing for hobby work, with features like spaghetti detection, skipped failed objects in batch jobs, and helpful chamber cooling for ASA and ABS. The main knocks are its age, the lidar being of limited value on some materials, and concerns about closed software, cloud handling, and future parts availability. A solid pick if you want a polished machine rather than a project.
Common Questions (5)
The X1C Combo is still a strong buy if you want a mature, reliable printer now, especially for single-material printing or occasional multi-material use. The main caveat is that the P2S is described as the better value for some buyers because it adds newer hardware, while the X1C's biggest advantage is that its bugs are already worked out.
It can be partially opened up: third-party hardware like plates, extruders, and hotends still works, and the printer can reportedly be jailbroken to load open-source firmware. The concern is that firmware updates have broken some third-party features before, so some owners stay on older firmware to avoid losing compatibility.
Yes. A hardened nozzle and extruder gear add about $60, and the stock setup may need that upgrade if you print abrasive materials. One commenter also notes the P2S is expected to include a hardened nozzle, which is a drawback of the P1S/X1C-style setup for those materials.
Yes, the X1C is used for ABS/ASA and the chamber fan is specifically called out as helpful for those materials. The lidar is often considered less useful for ABS/ASA because it can get dirty, so watching the first layer is the practical approach.
No built-in exhaust vent is mentioned, which is a problem if you want to vent fumes outside. That makes it less convenient for setups that rely on external exhaust routing.

The upgrades that the P2S offers are minimal, the biggest being the nozzle design. But let me offer a counter point: The X1C design has been in use for years. The bugs have been worked out.
As for this deal it's still pretty good. The only weak point is the AMS as the AMS 2 Pro is far superior. The P2S has a lot of newer stuff but I actually use the lidar on the X1C and I print a lot of ASA/ABS so the chamber fan is helpful. Plus they will be supporting it with updates for two more years and security patches for 4 more.
U1 is an interesting design, can't wait until it gets into users hands at a large scale to see how it performs. design innovation is good for us, the consumers... BambuLabs kicked a rather stagnant market group in the ass when they came out with their first printer, i'm glad more manufacturers are being forced to innovate while keeping these printers within an affordable range.
