The game design sort of forces you to pay attention to the story, the environment, and the names of people and locations. It will tell you to go to XYZ location, expecting you to have seen signs pointing towards XYZ a few times by that point.

It plays a lot like a Metroidvania game in that certain places are locked until you gain certain abilities and have to revisit them to keep progressing.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. Such a great atmospheric game with spectacular world-building. And it helps that it's interconnected with the Alan Wake games which I also love.

I just bought it on PC a few weeks ago. To be an older game I'm shocked it can't run at ultra settings and get 120 fps on a 3090

On PC (and I presume every other system), Remedy included a lot of options to adjust the difficulty from rate of replenishment sliders to full invincibility and one-hit-kills.

It's a great way to enjoy the story if you just want to experience the world and explore without ramping up your skills.

Watch out with the one-hit-kills option as you will kill a boss before you even have time to experience the set-piece.

The combat is fun enough, but to provide a fair warning to those expecting something like Quantum Break or Alan Wake, this map/layout of this game is significantly more confusing than those games. I was lost all the time and eventually realized I wasn't having fun backtracking all the time. Not everyone struggles with this problem, but many do.
