Apple started it long back with its ARM based M1 that got good performance and great battery life with in package memory(SIP) and it then by Qualcomm xElite with reasonable performance and good battery life also was a SIP
Then the x86 answer to QCOM was Intel Ultra-V in both Lunar and Panther Lake forms ditched upgradable memory and went SIP.
That left AMD alone and its "AI" moniker also went on the same lines. It is now so horrible that Framework, the ultimate Customization king of laptops have to defend as to why its Strix Halo desktop needs to have integrated LPDDR5x. LPDDR5x has high speed as well as power advantages and with Power efficiency being the premium in today's laptops.
Only place where I see upgradable memory would be in corporate windows laptops of DELL and HP that too a specific lines. Any thin and lite design will still be soldered or SIP memory.
Let me tell you that nowadays corporate IT Departments also have started to allow Macs after M2 release. Pre Covid, offically laptops were Windows only with only the level of CEO and CTO having a Mac in addition to Windows laptops. 3 years ago in my company only Senior Directors and above were allowed any Macbook/Pro but now even developers can request the same as long as their Director approves them...So if IT departments do not mind using a closed upgrade path Macbook, there will be very little resistance to Windows counterparts....

Side note, the box has BB sticker showing mine was the 2000 ish out of the 2500 returned unit. Previous buyer returned on Oct 03 2025
Should I install a fresh Windows 11 on this? If so, should I download the drivers first from the website? I'm also planning on swapping out the SSD in this to a 1TB that I have.. so fresh install probably makes sense.
Reviews complain about the keyboard on this laptop. It is not that bad, but is very weird. It runs hot as hell and you can feel it. I had closed the list after looking at it at BB to and it was in the middle of the memory training cycle. It felt like it was going to catch on fire. The screen is decent and reasonably bright. Port selection is good. It is heavier than the manufacturer spec (per scale: 4lbs 8.7 oz), but not brutal for a 16" laptop at this price. I hate the Pilot key on the right side CTRL key. I think you can reconfigure it to something else, like normal CTRL function. I would not recommend paying full price for this computer. There are many others out there that are far superior and lighter around $8-900. For this price, its a win.
tried an update, clean install graphics drivers, disable fast startup, etc whatever ChatGPT or google tell me, but the screen still trips out like crazy still when waking from sleep. like its having a seizure.
also less important, but the laptop does not seem to recognize being flipped into tablet mode.
