It's a good deal, for the first year. New users just know if you get hooked, $60 a year after.

The equivalent Bitwarden product is $40. I choose 1Password because the interface and user experience is more polished and easier to use across the platforms I need it for--Windows, Mac, iOS/iPadOS. Vault management in Bitwarden is still clunky compared to 1Password. The browser extensions have gotten better, but still aren't as snappy. My wife enjoys the 1Password interface, so I also get compliance with password manager use--as opposed to Bitwarden experience she will just choose to avoid.

I don't care for how much 1Password is moving away from the average user and towards enterprise and VC-money-fueled distractions, but at this point it is still worth the $20 premium for us.
How is the Bitwarden $40?

I have been using dashlane for several years and hate it. It saves PWs in doubles and triples and doesn't save new PWs consistently and across all my devices. So even if i hsve 3 PWs for the same site none are correct. i may give this a try
1Password is a lifesaver and life organizer. You can attach documents to entries, use 1Password browser extension, I have it on Andriod and Windows 11 pc's. I couldn't live without it. I highly recommend them - and they have NEVER been hacked like others have!

I love 1Password and have been using it for over 15 years now, but I'm still super annoyed at how they handled the transition from standalone/perpetual to subscription/cloud. I've been hanging on with my standalone license due to that anger but this is still a very tempting deal.

There was a period where you could purchase standalone or subscription, but the way to buy the standalone license differed from every single other version prior. Trying to look up how to buy a standalone license on the web site simply said (in the fine print) that the option was available. Skimming through the forums there were a ton of POd people bitching about it and 1PW staff consistently only talked about the pros and benefits of going cloud-based subscription. I never found a single instance where 1PW staff guided someone to how to purchase the standalone, or really even acknowledge that the option even existed. I finally happened (by accident!) to run across the spot where you could buy the standalone license but at that point it was no longer an option.

I understand their need for recurring revenue and eventual migration toward subscription/cloud-based, and was even happy that they were coming up with their own cloud solution with things like travel-mode, but how they handled that migration period felt really scummy and dishonest to me. The product page would say you could purchase a perpetual license, but not once did I find how to do it on their web site. I looked periodically over several months and -never- saw it documented or explained anywhere. Skimming through the forums I found very consistent responses from 1PW staff about all of the benefits and reasons for going cloud-based, which of course meant it had to be subscription-based, but not once did I see them say "Oh well, here's how to get standalone instead." The consistency with the messaging from 1PW staff pushing people toward cloud/subscription, and never mentioning that standalone was even an option still, was remarkable.

Hell, I even decided to give it a shot earlier this year and installed it. The very first thing I noticed was that it was impossible to keep anything local. ALL vaults have to be stored in the cloud. Based on how it purposefully caches the vault locally so it can still function when not connected to a network seems to imply that they could support local vaults, they just refuse to. Oh, and it really, really didn't want to let me keep the old version installed to use in parallel with the new version. I imagine there is a technical reason for that, but the combination of refusing to support local vaults AND refusing to allow me to keep the old software installed so I could have a local-only vault reignited the dying embers of my anger and I promptly uninstalled it.

I doubt my ranting was helpful to anyone but I did it to make a point (and because I really am still super annoyed and needed to vent). The point is I like the software and company enough, their security model is well thought out & explained, and this deal is good enough, that I -might- finally try the cloud version and (maybe) give up my standalone version.

They are similar. Bitwarden single plan $10/y, family $40/y. I only need single plan and I rather stay with bw so I dont have to keep movingmy vault once free sub expire.

I've heard wonderful things about 1Password and have wanted to try it. My reason not doing so is sadly I've been a Lastpass user for over a decade and finally got my older parents using Lastpass on a family plan when their breach hit. It was painful enough of a process to onboard them to Lastpass, worried about how frustrating switching will be for them too.

Another advantage of Bitwarden is the option to self-host. Just point it to your own server during client setup and you're good to go.

I use Lastpass and they have been breached so everyone here hates them. Been with them for years, never even bothered to change my password. Never had anything stolen. People here will add a credit card to an app for one use then delete it every time. I just leave them there forever, no problems and that is covered by your credit card anyway.

Lastpass is just easier to use than the alternatives.

I never switched. I even spent 2 weeks making new passwords for every single site I have stored there for BW, but LP is just too easy to use. LP has everything a user wants but I perfectly understand I'm playing with fire. Don't ever trust LP, though, no matter what the company says to assure you.

I still use https://www.iliumsoft.com/ewallet/windows/ from the days of Palm and Windows mobile. I tried the many other ones, including self-hosting BW on a Raspberry. eWallet is local (mostly), simple, robust and a one-time payment of $20. Works for me!

Since someone with permissions decided to remove all my comments here when they were no different than what everyone else is saying, I'm reposting it.

My wife and I both use one shared account on Bitwarden and it gets the job done very well. The ONLY reason to go with this free trial, then pay after, is to keep your logins private from your own family members.

Great for grandparents and people that aren't very technical and are not too concerned if their passwords are hacked.
For anyone with sense, get Bitwarden.

Tried it, it's just not as convenient as LastPass.
You can bash it all you want and talk down to people who use it but I seriously don't care.
You've seen one too many hacker movies.
