This IdeaPad Slim 3 looks like a strong budget productivity laptop, with a Ryzen 5 8540U, 300 nit touch IPS screen, USB C charging, and a 60Wh battery that stands out at this price. The memory is upgradeable, with an 8GB soldered module plus one DDR5 SO DIMM slot that can reach 24GB total, and the SSD can be expanded with some effort. The main tradeoffs are the cut down port selection, no USB4, HDMI 1.4, and uncertainty around external monitor refresh rates. It feels like a capable everyday machine if you can live with the leaner I O and modest base storage.

  • The laptop supports up to 24GB total DDR5-5600 memory with one soldered 8GB and one upgradeable SO-DIMM slot.

    ValueRangerwonniepooh

  • The storage upgrade path supports a second M.2 PCIe Gen4 (2242) slot with up to 1TB SSD capacity.

    cation_anionArkHillBillie2099

  • USB-C charging is supported, which can simplify power setup for travel.

    fixxture

  • USB-C display output can support 4K at 60Hz according to Lenovo documentation.

    OhHim

  • The HDMI port is limited to HDMI 1.4, which can restrict external monitors to 30Hz and cause lag.

    FuschiaDeer1674boosterjm

  • The included storage can feel small because the configuration is described as a miserly 128GB SSD.

    boosterjm

  • Upgrading the SSD may require opening the laptop and cloning the existing NVMe drive, which can be major surgery.

    fb88

  • The charging and power delivery wording is unclear, including whether power delivery works as input, output, or both.

Sadly, no I don't think so. They are being a bit cagey by just saying "power delivery" without saying if that's both in and out, or just out. And zooming in on the image of the port, there's no lightning bolt. So it's unclear.
The one I bought from the previous deal supports usb c charging, but only at 35-40w.

Sorry, newbie questions. What does this mean exactly? The laptop comes with 256GB, but I can replace the 256GB with a new 512GB SSD and clone the 256GB to the new 512GB?

Does this mean that there is in fact a second slot that supports up to 1TB? So if I don't upgrade the 256GB that comes with the laptop, then I can add a 1TB SSD to a second slot and use the second SSD as a separate drive?

Thank you

Memory
  • 8GB DDR5, 5600MHz
  • Supports up to 16GB (1 DIMM Slot)
Is it 16GB total (so the max ram that the 1 DIMM slot supports is 8GB?) Or does the 1 DIMM slot support a maximum RAM of 16GB (making it 24GB total?) Also, when the memory is uneven (8GB paired with 16GB), is there any negative effect?

Thank you

Nevermind. I found a more detailed spec PDF on their website and found the answer. It reads:

Can you please provide the link where you saw this spec?

I think this is the same model and it shows only 2242 supported. See video at time 3:45

Thanks
